VAN GAAL'S FORMER PUPIL RETURNS TO HAUNT HIM

Argentine goalkeeper sergio Romero, who saved two Dutch penalty kicks is a typical case of an apprentice who returns to haunt the master. Netherlands boss Van Gaal had brought Romero to Europe when he was the coach of leading Dutch club AZ Alkmaar years back. He never imagined the Argentine may one come back to frustrate his efforts to win the most coveted sporting trophy on earth.
He admitted teaching Romero all he knew about saving penalties. Romero, as it turned out last night, listened to his teacher.
"Of course I taught Romero how to stop penalties and of course that hurts. I asked two players to take the first penalty before I ended  up with Vlaar, he was the best player on the pitch and he a great deal of confidence, but it shows that when push comes to shove it's not easy to score in penalties", said Van Gaal.
He said losing on penalties was the cruelest way to depart the tournament espe4cially as, in his opinion, The Netherlands had been as good, if not better, than Argentina on the day.
Van Gaal said he was pleased with his team he doesn't like having to go Brasilia for the broze medal match.
