Kenya departs for qualifier minus Amrouche
Stars coach is suspended for both legs of the decisive qualifier and has left leadership of team to his two assistants James Nandwa and Ken Odhiambo.
Harambee Stars head coach Adel Amrouche did not travel with team to Lesotho when they jetted out on Friday morning.
Amrouche is suspended for both legs of the match and has left the leadership of the team to his two assistants James Nandwa and Ken Odhiambo.
A statement from Football Kenya Federation said the players were paid Sh1.1million in allowances on Thursday. As exclusively reported by Goal, the team left minus Belgium-based midfielder Ayub Timbe and Johanna Omollo.
The Genk midfielder had earlier been doubtful for the match as his club was reluctant to let him go and he eventually did not make it. His brother Shaban Timbe had earlier cast doubt on his availability when he said that Genk were unwilling to let him come home.
In total, 20 players flew out to Lesotho aboard a chartered fly 540 plane. Kenyan head of delegation Elly Mukolwe said they are confident of doing well even without some key players in the team.
“We paid the players their allowances on Thursday. They are motivated and we are confident of coming back with a positive result.”
