The Desert Scorpions have confirmed the signing of seven new players and the drop of nine others ahead of the league second stanza resumption on July 20.
Gombe United have announced the signing of seven players to reinforce their squad ahead of the start of the second stanza of the 2013/2014 Nigeria Professional Football League season. According to a statement signed by the club media officer Tanimu Umar, the signing of new players was in bid to ensure the team retain its place in the elite division at the end of the season.The Desert Scorpions have lately experienced various restructuring in the technical crew with the departure of Belgian tactician Maurice Cooreman and the anouncement of former Super Eagles gaffer Augustine Eguavoen as Technical Adviser and Chief Coach Oyekale Oyedunni.
"In preparation for the second round of the 2013/14 Nigerian Premier League season, Gombe United Football Club has finalized the signing of seven new players," the statement read.
"The new players are set to strengthen the team and to complement the existing ones in the club and will replace nine players dropped based on recommendation from the club’s technical committee," Umar concluded.
The seven new signings are Mathias Samuel (Kano Pillars), Austin Ekpoma (Dolphin), Maurice Chigozie (Plateau United), Peter Iyamu (Bendel Insurance), Isaac Giwa (Elkanemi Warriors), Cyril Obodo and Azuka Ebinum (Warri Wolves).
Meanwhile nine players have been dropped from the Gombe based club. They are Victor Barnabas, Sanusi Sani, Hassan Hussaini, Bilyaminu Aliyu, Mba Obinna, Emmanuel Bivan, Ola Ogundele, Iyang Asuquo and McMarcel Obioha.
Gombe United are placed 19thon the Nigeria Professional Football League table.
