Ambrose downshifts after Brazil
Celtic defender, Efe Ambrose has spoken about the need to make adaptations following his participation at the 2014 Fifa World Cup with Nigeria.
Ambrose was on duty for Celtic in the Uefa Champions League on Tuesday Icelandic minnows, KR Reykjavik.
The Nigerian defender bowed out of the Brazil showpiece on June 30 with a 2-0 last-16 defeat to France in Brasilia, watched by 67,882.
On Tuesday in Reykjavik, only 1,520 spectators turned out at the KR-Völlur and Ambrose conceded that it was not easy making the transition from the big game against France and Argentina in Brazil.
“It was difficult but at the same time you have to respect everyone you play against in football these days,” he told the Express.
Celtic won the game 1-0 and Ambrose added that showing respect to the opposition was key to achieving the victory.
“You have to give your opponent due respect because there are no minor teams or minor countries in football these days. You can get beaten when you are not prepared.
“So it doesn’t matter who we play against, the most important thing is to represent Celtic and win every game.”
After only a fortnight’s break and a couple of training sessions under new Celtic boss, Ronny Deila, the 25-year-old was pitched into the first leg of his club’s second qualifying round tie.
However, Ambrose, speaking at the club’s Lennoxtown training complex, said he was not tired despite having no proper pre-season training.
“It is normal because it is not the first time. I am a professional and I am used to it. I am always ready to go. I just love playing football,” he said.
