Gor Mahia 1-0 Nakuru Top Fry: K’Ogalo move six points clear at top of the table

Gor Mahia 1-0 Nakuru Top Fry: K’Ogalo move six points clear at top of the table stretched their lead at the top of Kenyan Premier League to six points after they edged out a stubborn Nakuru Top Fry 1-0 in a mid-week match at City Stadium on Wednesday.

New comer Simon Pierre scored the only goal after eight minutes as the league champions moved to 37 points, six ahead of Tusker.
Gor Mahia won the match despite absence of their regular players like Ugandan duo of Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito and Godfrey Walusimbi, who were with Uganda Cranes for an international friendly match against Malawi on Tuesday.
Even regular defender David ‘Calabar’ Owino was missing in starting line-up resting after featuring for Harambee Stars in an international build-up against Burundi on Tuesday.
Coach Bobby Williamson said afterwards that he was impressed by performance put up by new boys and believes he now has many options for starting line-up.
“We took a gamble to allow this match to go on since we did not have majority of our first eleven players but it paid off and I have just realized that we have many options to pick from.
“The young lads gave a good account of themselves in this match and they have shown that they have what it takes to feature at this level,” Williamson told Goal.
His Top Fry counterpart Peter Okidi said he was once again let down by poor finishing as his players came so close on several occasions.
“I am glad that we fought for and we should have had at least a goal at some point in the match. We were simply let down by poor finishing.”
After a balanced first half, Gor Mahia were stronger side when the match resumed and should have extended their lead in 55th minute had youngster John Kariuki not been denied by the side netting.
Then one minute later, Teddy Siwa beat Gor Mahia’s off-side trap but was too quick to release the ball which went wide as Jerim Onyango in goal  was coming out to clear the danger.
Gor Mahia’s Kennedy Opiyo was then cautioned by center referee Nasor Doka after he had pulled down Dennis Sikhai. The resultant free-kick from Sikhai went just wide with Jerim Onyango in Gor Mahia goal well-beaten.
