Football Kenya Federation have revealed they will get a new coach for Harambee Stars’ if their latest appeal on Adel Amrouche’s one year ban is not lifted.Kenya FA President Sam Nyamweya has told Goal that they will appeal against decision by Confederation of African Football (Caf) to ban Amrouche for a period of one year.
“The ban is very severe and we intend to lodge an appeal within shortest time possible,” Nyamweya said, adding, "if Caf sticks to their guns that the ban stays…then we have no option but get a replacement.
“We are in the middle of a serious Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifier campaign and need a substantive coach to handle the team. Incase our appeal is rejected, we will have to look for another alternative,” he revealed.
Nyamweya declined to confirm who they are considering even though reports confirmed that Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson is favorite to take over the position. However, a source in FKF said they have began talks with Williamson in a bid to bring him on board.
“We are looking at various coaches and Williamson is among those we are talking to. He understands the local league and players and will be a perfect replacement for Amrouche,” said our source.
Amrouche was suspended by the African body after being found guilty of spitting on a match official during Kenya’s African Cup of Nations qua, lifier against Comoros in Moroni. He had earlier been slapped with a two match suspension pending submission of the matter to Caf disciplinary board.
The board under chairmanship of Raymond Hack from South Africa, had it's sitting last Thursday at Caf headquarters in Cairo where the decision was finally made to ban the Kenyan coach. In its ruling obtained by Goal, the board found Amrouche guilty of breaching article 129 (c) of its rules which provides for a 12 match ban to anyone spitting at a match official.
"The suspension is effective from first day of notification namely July 20, 2014,” a letter confirming the suspension and copied to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) read in part.
The letter further states that this decision will be forwarded to World governing body Fifa which may extend the sanction internationally meaning that Amrouche cannot coach any team anywhere in the world during the period of suspension.
"The decision can be contested before Caf appeals board. The party intending to appeal shall announce this intention in writing within three days of notification of decision," the letter from Caf adds.
Kenya FA had earlier appealed against the two match suspension slapped on Amrouche by arguing that the coach did not spat on the match official and accused the official of lying in it's report.
