Harambee Stars, who face Lesotho on Sunday in Afcon qualifier, have leaped 13 places up in table compared to last month and now stand at position 95
Ahead of Sunday’s African Cup of Nations qualifier, national team Harambee Stars has for the first time got into top 100 position as confirmed by latest Fifa rankings.
The team leaped 13 places up in the rankings compared to last month and now stand at position 95.
Harambee Stars have not lost in the last three matches they have played. Last month they edged out Comoros in the preliminary fixture of African Cup of Nations qualifier after winning the two-legged affair 2-1.
This week, Harambee Stars were held to a barren draw by Burundi at Nyayo Stadium in an international friendly match.
Kenya’s opponents Lesotho are ranked at position 131. Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairman Sam Nyamweya is delighted by latest rankings and says they intend to raise it to 70th position.
“Our goal is to reach number 70 so that our players can be able to play in England in the next two years,” Nyamweya told Goal.
Uganda are the highest ranked country in the region and stand at position 87. Algeria are the highest ranked African country at position 24 worldwide.
Germany has climbed to the top of the rankings after winning World Cup for the first time in 24 years. The four-time champions, who beat Argentina 1-0 at the Maracana on Sunday, have replaced Spain in first place as well as succeeding them as world champions.
Argentina and the Netherlands complete the new-look top three. Spain's title defense surprisingly ended in the group stage, and the team has dropped to eighth place.
First-round exits also led to Portugal going down seven places to 11th, Italy dropping five to 14th and England plummeting 10 spots to 20th.
