Senegal qualify for Round of 16.


Senegal lost 81-46 to Argentina on Day-4 of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup on Wednesday, but has earned a place in the Round of 16 with one game left in the Group Phase.
Thanks to two victories in four games (2-2), the West African nation will finish third in Group B if they beat the Philippines on Thursday.
Senegal will take on Spain or Brazil - depending on their result against the Philippines.
If Senegal lose on Thursday, they will finish fourth in the group and will square off against Group A winner Spain.
If they beat the Philippines, they will square off against the Brazilians, a team that has been playing excellent basketball.
Senegal’s unpredictability resurfaced on Wednesday after conceding a 35-point margin defeat to Argentina.
Gorgui Dieng was the only Senegalese to score in double digits with 11 points, while Argentina’s excellent ball movement made the difference, resulting in 20 assists, which allowed the South American to lead most of the contest.
Senegal’s sloppy plays, resulting in only seven assists followed by 21 turnovers, proved costly for Cheikh Sarr's men.
On the other hand, the African Champions Angola have an harder battle to face in Group D as Australia, Lithuania and Slovenia are guaranteed to fill places 1-3.
Meanwhile, Angola will advance to the Round of 16 if they beat Australia (3-1) and Korea beat Mexico.
After falling to beat Mexico on Tuesday, the Angolans stepped on the floor on Wednesday knowing that a defeat could put their campaign in serious trouble.
Angola gave Slovenia a hard time throughout the game, leading by as many as eight points in the third quarter, but eventually the European side prevailed to a 93-87 win.
If Angola qualify for the next round, they will take on the US, winners of Group C, in Barcelona.
