Pedro: Xavi is a living legend

The veteran midfielder has featured scarcely for Barcelona this season, but his team-mate has defended his importance ahead of their midweek Champions League tie.

Barcelona forward Pedro has hailed the importance of "living legend" Xavi despite his scaled down role in the first team.
The 34-year-old has played only 17 minutes this season over three La Liga matches, with summer signing Ivan Rakitic chosen ahead of him to start alongside Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets in midfield.
Pedro stressed that his reduced gametime does not diminish Xavi's importance behind the scenes, while claiming that his own lack of goals in 2014-15 does not concern him at the moment.
"Xavi is a living legend of Barca," he told reporters in a press conference on Monday. "He is the captain in the locker room and his words and presence has weight.
"He's at peace with his situation. He will still be a major player for us this season.
"Myself, I am missing goals this season but I'm confident that they will come. The important thing is to keep creating chances."
Xavi could get a chance to stretch his legs at Camp Nou on Wednesday when Barca host Apoel in the Champions League and Pedro already has his sights set on European glory in 2014-15.
"Each year we strive to reach the final of the Champions League," he added. "We look forward to getting underway this week and we hope we can win the title.
"Apoel will be tough opponents as they are champions of Cyprus."
