Confirmed: Rooney out three Manchester United matches after red card.

Britain Soccer Champions LeagueIt’s confirmed: Wayne Rooney‘s kick to Stewart Downing’s knee will have Manchester United without their captain for three matches.
Rooney will miss matches against Everton, West Brom and Chelsea for his red card in Saturday’s win over West Ham United. Three games is considered the standard ban for a violent conduct red card.
Some called for his Manchester United captaincy over his lack of discipline (though, to be fair, Steven Gerrard is among the Premier League’s active leaders in red cards, and Lee Cattermole was the Sunderland captain despite being atop the list. Oh, and two words: Roy Keane.).

What will be interesting is whether Rooney instantly regains his place in the side. To be sure, he’s played well, but the glut of attacking players means that Juan Mata and others will get a chance to shine.
Surely he’ll go right back into the fold, with the armband, right?
