Nairobi City Stars 0-1 Sofapaka: Batoto ba Mungu storm summit

Sofapaka have displaced Gor Mahia from top of Kenyan Premier League table following a slim victory that leaves City Stars facing relegation.

Sofapaka maintained their push for a second Kenyan Premier League title but in the process left Nairobi City Stars at the edge of relegation after a 1-0 win at Nyayo Stadium on Friday.
Cliftone Miheso scored for Batoto ba Mungu as they moved top of the log on 43 points but for the next 48 hours as the table could change when Gor Mahia takes on Tusker at Kasarani on Sunday.

City Stars remain rooted second from bottom on 19 points and will need miracles to play in top flight next season. KCB had won first match of the day 1-0 against Ulinzi Stars to keep their survival hopes alive.
The former Thika United man latched onto Enock Agwanda’s cross to hit the back of the net. Sofapaka coach Sam Timbe was a relieved man after the victory. “It has put us where we wanted to be.
“Coming into this match, we knew that dropping any more points would have derailed us. City Stars beat us in the first leg and it complicated matters for us,” Timbe told Goal.
Timbe however, expressed concern at the number of lost chances by his side pointing out that it is killing confidence of the players.
“It is disappointing when you see so many chances going to waste. Of late we have not been scoring goals and it is affecting our confidence.”
Despite the loss which puts his side firmly in relegation zone, City Stars coach Robinson Ofwoku has refused to give up.
“They got only one chance and used it. We had too many of them but failed to get anything from it. However, we have not given up yet. No one should count us out until the last day of competition.”
Sofapaka forward line was very active in early stages of the match with veteran John Barasa missing to connect an early sitter. The former Kenyan league champions were clearly dominant and were rewarded with a tenth minute corner thereafter.
It was always a matter of time when they would get ahead and it did happen in 19th minute with a brilliant effort from Agwanda ending up at the feet of Miheso, who simply tapped it home with the easiest of touches.
City Stars were more active in the second half with former Gor Mahia midfielder Moses Otieno having the best chance to equalize in the 70th minute only to shoot wide.
