Morocco 3-0 Kenya: Atlas Lions dim Harambee Stars

National team Harambee Stars fell 3-0 away to Morocco in this international friendly match played on Monday night continuing a bad record for Kenya.

Harambee Stars fell 3-0 to Morocco on Monday night in an international friendly continuing a bad record against Atlas Lions by the Kenyans.

Going into the match, Morocco had thrashed Central African Republic 4-0. They have won two of their recent five matches losing twice and drawing once.

Kenya on other hand had gone down by a solitary goal to giants Egypt in Aswan City maintaining a poor record for the Stars, who have now gone win less in six of their recent matches.

Kenya were eliminated from second round of African Cup of Nations qualifiers by Lesotho who went through to group stages after restricting Stars to a 1-0 defeat in a home and away fixture.

Morocco on the other hand will host next year’s Africa Cup of Nations finals and are therefore, not involved in qualifiers. They are scheduled to play Benin and Zimbabwe in other up-coming friendly matches as they prepare for next year’s finals.

Kenya held on for close to 80 minutes before the goals started coming in proof of just how the team lacks ability to defend until the end. Badou Ezzaki's Morocco struggled to break down their guests and needed El Mehdi Karnass, Mbark Boussoufa and Mouhcine Iajour to net in last 15 minutes to secure victory. Kenya bravely held out for 76 minutes at Stade de Marrakech, before Karnass - in just his second international appearance - struck the opener for the hosts.
The defensive aspect of Bobby Williamson's men had been their focus but their goal was peppered in the dying stages - as Boussoufa converted from the spot four minutes from time, for his sixth goal for his country.
Iajour added a third in 89th minute, as Morocco celebrated their third win in a row, and second in four days after a 4-0 win over Central African Republic. It was Iajour's fifth goal in his ninth cap.
Coach Bobby Williamson preferred a one man attack led by AFC Leopards' forward Noah Wafula, who was playing his second match at this level and he did not give his markers much trouble.
Norway-based Arnold Origi back in the team was brilliant in goal as he denied the home side some clear chances in early minutes of the match. The first real chance for Stars was from Gor Mahia defender David Owino with a feeble shot inside first 20 minutes.

For long it remained the only chance for Stars who conceded two quick goals in last 13 minutes of the match. This was second defeat in a row for coach Bobby Williamson, who took over from Adel Amrouche two months ago.
