Kenya has joined five other countries that have formally submitted their bids to host 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals.Football Kenya Federation submitted their bid on September 29, one day before Confederation of African Football (Caf) deadline date set for interested countries.
In a statement to Goal, FKF said their bid documents included a documentary showcasing the country's sports facilities and other requirements.
"The bid document is already at Caf headquarters and we are confident that we have put up a strong bid to host Africa’s greatest football event.
"We had a strong team comprising of Kenyans and other international consultants and we are extremely delighted by the support from our government on the bid," said the statement signed by FKF Secretary General Michael Esakwa.
Other countries that have put in a bid for the event include Algeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Mali and Zimbabwe. Kenya has already been awarded rights to host 2018 Africa Nations Championships (Chan).
The competition’s hosting rights were made available to the 52 Caf member states last month by continental body after Libya, which had been endorsed to stage the event, voluntarily withdrew over insecurity.
The Safaricom and Nyayo Stadiums in Nairobi, Moi Stadium in Mombasa, Kichoge Keino in Eldoret and refurbished Moi Stadium in Kisumu are listed as hosting venues for the competition should Caf accept Kenya’s proposal.
