El Merreikh seek revenge against KCCA
El Merreikh will be hoping to book a place in the final of the Cecafa Kagame Cup when they take on KCCA of Uganda on Friday afternoon in Kigali.
In search of revenge against KCCA who stunned the Sudanese side in the CAF Champions League in February with a 2-0 win in Khartoum, El Merreikh is respectful but will be eyeing only victory to achieve their objective.
Head coach Yousief Burhaneldin admits that they face a tough challenge but just like they overcame Azam in the quarterfinals in a penalty shootout, the same level of determination will come in handy today.
“We want to win this game and we shall do everything we can to emerge winners,” said Burhaneldin.
El Merreikh’s goalkeeper Omar Salim Magoola will be up against his former side and will be hoping to showcase the same heroics that saw him signed by the Sudanese giants from KCCA.
Magoola saved two penalties in the first leg in Khartoum before saving another in the return leg in Kampala to eliminate El Merreikh 3-2 on aggregate.
The Ugandan was also instrumental in the win over Azam in the quarterfinals after he saved Saint Preux Lionel’s penalty to register a 4-3 victory that eliminated the Tanzanian champions.
The winner of this tournament will bag $30,000 while the first and second runners-up will walk away with $20,000 and $10,000.
