Cameroon player dies in Algeria
A Cameroonian player of Algerian club JS Kabylie died on Saturday after he was hit by an object hurled on to the pitch by a local fan following the team’s 2-1 loss to visiting USM Alger, a police report said.
Albert Ebossé, 24, scored Kabylie’s lone goal from the spot kick in the second match day of the Algerian Ligue 1, but home fans at the 1st November Stadium in Tizi Ouzou were unhappy after the game due to the defeat and started throwing missiles towards the players as walked off the pitch.
Ebossé was struck to the head by a projectile and was immediately rushed to nearby Tizi Ouzou hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead of head injury moments later, according to the report.
Ebossé was the league’s top scorer in 2013/14 and had enjoyed six caps with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon since 2009.
